It's hard to get a full idea of the improvement factor here on account of the content of the drawings. Since the original is a chip with a face and this is only a character drawing. But I will say that the coloring and shading here does show a lot of improvement as far as depicting fur goes, the original looked too glossy, here the linework and brush strokes give some texture to the dude. Also the pose and the expression convey a good amount of emotion so that's always great. Also upon closer inspection the sense of shape in the head has improved quite a bit. Background could definitely be better though. Maybe something with a casino vibe to match up thematically with the original.

Terrific crit, thank you!

I love this painting. Everything about it is very well executed and rendered excellently. The blue wavy/overlapping strokes in the background do a great job of contrasting with the solid polished red of the lips which in turn make those white teeth really pop. The sprinkles on the tongue are just a huge bonus that add a ton of personality to the piece, great job. The only issue I have is the crookedness of the pic, also I'm not so sure I like what I assume is a red wall behind it, I'd have to see it without to judge whether it detracts from the red of the lips or adds to them. None the less great job.

Ah wow!! Thanks so much for your review! I'm glad that you like it and yes, the picture is crooked, but that's my bad, haha.

Alright, a few issues going on here. Most notably the cropping of the image could be better, bring the bottom edge up more or continue the guy to the bottom don't just cut it off like that, it looks awkward. Second the red aura isn't really adding anything to the drawing, if you're going to give a character an aura like that it should factor more dynamically into the shading of the character the glow from the light should bounce off of his jacket. But I suppose it is necessary to separate the character from the background - bringing me to the next point - your background. This is a very grey picture, you should make your character stand out more from the background, probably play up the snow factor some more because right now the sky, the ground and the guy's jacket are all almost the same tone.

Last point - I'm pretty sure this is in some capacity traced or copied, it looks a lot like a live trace on illustrator because of the way the shadows and highlights are done on the jacket, I know for a fact that the face is from Disturbed's mascot, also the stylistic disconnect between the character and the background as well as it and your other pieces points to this not being completely original; I apologize if it is, but if it isn't you should really take this one and any other traced/filtered pieces down.

None of my drawings are traced. I drew majority of them on a 10 inch tablet

Come on man, put some pride into your work; the work you submit into the Art Portal should be a representation of your best skills as an artist. It looks as though you spent some time on the guy, laid down a sketch for the background, got lazy and then decided it was good enough. It wasn't, that background is pitiful, it's messy and lacks any interesting shape and really brings down what you've got going on in front with the dude. A flat red background would be better than the halfassed shaded nonsense you've got going on right now. Again, you were scouted, awesome, that means someone has faith in your skills and put their own reputation on the line to vouch for you, right now that background is a disservice to them and the people who are looking through the portal who want to see the art that people poured some of their soul into and really worked at. Just because you drew something doesn't mean it has to go into the Art Portal, make an art thread in the forums if you need some direction, we're happy to hand out critiques on your studies works in progress and smaller drawings that don't warrant a place in your gallery.

RedAndrew responds:

Man, your so right D: I'll try my best next time, I promise.

Great work on this one, man. This background suits the look way better than the other one that turned into its own thing (which is also awesome by the way). The colors are wonderfully chosen and the whole thing is beautifully done. The contrast in shading and colors is a real treat for the eyes and beautifully compliment the dark and surreal nature of the drawing. The only issue I take is that the three projected eyes don't really match the quality of the rest of the piece, the middle eye's is a little asymmetrical and the edges could be crisper but overall fantastic job.

Sockembop responds:

Thanks a lot. When I started drawing this I wasn't completely sure how I was going to paint it and at first it was going to be much simpler. I was going to draw the whole thing looking more 2D with shaky lines and less dramatic lighting. Once I had painted everything else I wasn't sure how I wanted to paint the projected eyes that would fit in the painting and still look like what they were supposed to. I should have done them differently.

Man, this is one awesome painting. The lack of definition on the mushroom man makes it all the more awesome how he just sort of oozes in and out of his body. The colors in the background are just awesome. Great work.

Very nice. I really like this drawing, it's got a lot of unique things going for it. It's not often you see ballpoint work in the portal and to see it this well done is a real treat; you get more out of that pen than most people can get out of multiple pencils. Plus its nice to see some characters that deviate from the usual stuff the portal produces (either Western or Japanese style characters). he detail in her costume is very impressive as is the shading and anatomy. Normally I'd make a note of the lack of background but what is here is presented so well that it transcends it. Great job, man.

Oye-LKY responds:

Thanks you very much for such a nice review ^_^

I'm really digging the use of color on this, they look really cool and ethereal. The shading has an awesome style to it especially the highlights that being said your shadows can use some more defining. I think this drawing would benefit a lot from darker tones to bring out the colored highlights.
Keep up the awesome work.

Bdlsito responds:

Thanks Jack you are totally right about the shadows, I really hesitated about uploading it yet, it seemed too blurry. I'll tighten up for the next time.

Eh, I've seen better.

ZabuJard responds:

aw you sweet heart

You're work is seriously amazing. Normally I really couldn't care less about anything anime but the way you do it is just so beautiful, detailed and well composed that It really does transcend any and all prejudices anyone could possibly have toward art.
Keep it up.

clayscence responds:

thank you so mcuh!

Yeah, something like that.
